“Breath of Light / Πνοή Φωτός” in Ancient Corinth

News

MENTOR in Culture participates in the implementation of Breath of Light / Πνοή Φωτός, an original site-specific and participatory dance-theatre performance, which will be presented on 28 and 29 July 2026, at 20:00, at the Archaeological Site of Ancient Corinth, within the framework of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture’s programme “All of Greece One Culture 2026”.

Drawing on Corinthian mythology, the symbolism of Apollo and the cultural heritage of the place, the work creates a stage experience designed specifically for the archaeological site. Ancient Corinth does not function merely as the setting of the performance, but as a living space of memory, symbolism and participation, where archaeological heritage meets contemporary performing arts.

Taking as its starting point the symbolism of Apollo’s seven-string lyre, the performance is structured as a journey through seven stages. Through this structure, the audience is led from fragmentation towards harmony, from noise towards rhythm, and from individual experience towards collective participation. The performance proposes an experiential encounter with space, body, voice, movement and music, highlighting Ancient Corinth as a field of cultural experience and artistic activation.

The performance stars Lydia Koniordou, one of the most emblematic Greek actresses, with a defining presence in ancient drama and contemporary theatre. Also participating is Maria Papageorgiou, one of the most distinctive and recognisable voices of the contemporary Greek music scene.

Direction and choreography are by Apostolia Papadamaki, the original music composition is by Tryfon Koutsourelis, while the original text and dramaturgy are by Panos Giokas.

The performance also brings together dancers, local choirs, volunteers and members of the local community, strengthening the participatory character of the work and its connection with the place. Breath of Light / Πνοή Φωτός highlights the value of creating cultural works that are not simply presented in historic spaces, but are developed in direct relation to their history, atmosphere, memory and people.

The presentation of the performance in Ancient Corinth underlines the importance of supporting cultural productions in the region, through works that bring cultural heritage, contemporary artistic creation and local participation into dialogue. At the same time, it proposes an approach to archaeological sites not only as places of historical reference, but as living fields of experience, encounter and collective activation.

MENTOR in Culture has undertaken the organisation and production management of the performance, contributing to the implementation of a complex cultural project that connects cultural heritage with contemporary performing arts, participatory artistic practice and the local community.
